The purpose of the New Jersey Juvenile Collateral Consequences Checklist is to provide attorneys, judges, and other juvenile justice professionals, in addition to youth and their families, with the most up-to-date information available on the short-term and long-term consequences of juvenile adjudications of delinquency in New Jersey. It is the responsibility of defense attorneys to explain to clients and their families the consequences of delinquency adjudications prior to proceeding with consent decrees, adjudicatory hearings, or admissions colloquies. This checklist can help defense attorneys fulfill that obligation.
