Fast Forward Call Center Funded
Jun 29, 2010, Washington State Models for Change
Benton and Franklin counties received fantastic news in support of their truancy efforts. The Eastern Washington Models for Change site recently learned that United Way has awarded over 65% of the funding needed for a local truancy call center. The call center will be used as a part of the Fast Forward program, a component of their Out of School Youth Initiative. It will allow truant and potentially truant youth a clear pathway back to school and a diploma. The call center will be modeled after the Fast Forward Center in Dayton, Ohio. The model is focused on a centrally located access point that minimizes administrative obstacles to reentering the school system and educational achievement. It is an example of a successful student retrieval program and would provide the following:
- Work with out-of-school youth ages 16-21.
- Provide an open pathway back to school.
- Provide information to youth of the alternatives available to them.
- Compile all required enrollment paperwork (transcripts, SSID, valid address, shot history, etc.)
- Gather academic information (functional math and reading scores, vision screenings, personality inventory, etc.)
- Contact last attended schools to summarize any barriers to learning.
- Support student transition back to an appropriate education placement.
The Fast Forward program will launch in the fall.
