Models for Change 2nd Annual Champions for Change Awards
2009 Call for Nominations
Overview
Models for Change is now accepting nominations for the second-annual Champions for Change recognition of excellence. The Champions for Change recognition for Models for Change leaders and partners was launched at last year’s national conference. One leader from each of the four core Models for Change states (Illinois, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Washington) is selected for outstanding work that exemplifies what practice in “reformed” systems represents.
New this year, the nomination process has been opened to allow Models for Change state partners to nominate a Champion for Change from their own state. These nominations will be evaluated by the Models for Change Executive Committee, which will, again, select one Champion from each core state.
Qualifications
Champions for Change are individuals working with Models for Change in their states who have positively affected the lives of court-involved kids, their families, and communities in ways that provide opportunities for pathways away from delinquency and re-offending, and increase the youths’ potential to be successful in school and in family, peer, and community relationships.
Those selected will meet the following criteria:
- Working with Models for Change in one of the four core states;
- Demonstrable record of success impacting youth;
- Transferable results valuable to other locales;
- Inspirational to others involved in juvenile justice reform; and
- Representative of Models for Change core values: fundamental fairness; developmental differences between youth and adults; individual strengths and needs; youth potential; responsibility; and safety.
The Models for Change Executive Committee will make the final selection of the 2009 Champions for Change. The four Champions selected will be recognized at a luncheon during the Fourth Annual Models for Change National Working Conference in Washington, D.C., December 9, 2009.
